Today we are launching a couple new features in Swap ‘Em: the Wish List and a new internal messaging system.

The Wish List will help you locate books that you may not have otherwise found. After searching for a book and not finding one you want, you can choose to add it to your Wish List. Then, when ever a book is added that is on your wish list, you will be notified immediately of it and sent an email. From there, you can log in and send a message to buy that book. We hope that this makes it easier for you and, as always, we would love to hear some feedback on its effectiveness.

The internal messaging system will allow for users to send messages quicker and view them more efficiently than through email. It will work much like that of Facebook’s messaging system and is easy to get to know. Again, feel free to let us know of anything you believe will work better or any other features you believe could be beneficial to you.

Thank you and we look forward to being your option to buy and sell your used textbooks!

Recently, Swap ‘Em has been in talks with Anderson University’s administration about some legal issues pertaining to its partnership with Swap ‘Em. The results of these talks are being manifested in some subtle, but notable, changes to the interface of our service. Most obvious, the “Anderson University” tag under our logo has been removed and replaced with a tag reading “Anderson, IN”. This was done because we can no longer partner with the university with this endeavor and must retract all official ties with the university.

However, the service is still the same and we are still working on some very cool new features. The coolest of these new features will be a “Wish List” that allows you to add books that you want to a list and receive notifications when they become available. Also, during the summer, laws will go into effect requiring the public availability of ISBN numbers of required class materials. Starting July 10, 2010 we will be collecting this data and providing it to you on our website so you can see what books you need for a particular class and then search for them on Swap ‘Em or any other major book selling outlet.

We appreciate the support and loyalty shown to Swap ‘Em and will continue to provide the most innovative and convenient avenue of buying and selling textbooks: the Localized Textbook Marketplace.

We have released a beta feature to add and search for custom course materials that are not in universal ISBN databases.

When you add a new book, you’ll notice a check box asking you if the book you’re adding is a custom material.

At this point, if you check the box, a new interface slides down asking for a title. From here the process is the same as adding other books.

When searching, you’ll notice a link at the top right of the results if there are custom materials posted for this course or for the title you searched.

This will not appear when searching ISBN numbers because these materials do not always come with ISBN numbers. If you click on this link, you’ll see a list of results that looks like the regular results but will only contain custom course materials.

We would appreciate any user feedback on this feature as we continue to develop Swap ‘Em. Thank you.

Mike

Today, I got a little busy because I wanted to make the search function easier to navigate through and for people to see more clearly what is posted by other users.

Now, when you search, you’ll see a general list of books that match your search, along with price and availability information. Click on the book you are searching for to get more detailed information about pricing and availability and seeing who is listing each book and the condition it is in.

Also, along with this new search, you now have the ability to add comments to books that you post. For books you have already posted, simply click on Edit in the action menu on your Bookshelf and add a comment for the book.

For any questions, email info@swapem.net. Thanks to everyone!
